I was born and raised, right here in good ol’ Portland, Oregon… The City of Roses!
I am number six of nine children. My step-dad is a minister and known throughout the community and my mother was a classroom assistant and worked at OMSI where I spent every moment learning about dinosaurs, lasers, space and what the world had to offer. During the summers growing up we traveled a lot and and went Camp Fire Camps.
Growing up I became more and more interested in the world around me and the people in it. During my junior year at Jefferson High I joined The Amigos De Las Americas group and traveled to Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina to give children vaccinations and teach them the importance of physical hygiene. During this time I found that my passion is children and education. At Jefferson, I was also a member of the Finanical Services Academy and the Modern Dance lab which led me to graduation from the Jefferson High Dance Academy.
After high school I attended Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina, where I graduated with my BA in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. From there I went on to teach Kindergarten, 1st grade and 3rd grade. I was one of the key teachers in starting a dual-language Kindergarten program that was very successful! I have worked as a preschool teacher for the YMCA and an art teacher for the Blazers Boys and Girls Club.
I am currently working on my Masters in Special Education at Concordia University. Special Education has become my passion; I grew up with a sister with ADHD and am the mother of a child who shows signs of having ADD. I believe that all children, no matter what differences they have, deserve a great education. I am so glad to join the team here at Trillium Charter School and look forward to making differences in children lives!
