I grew up in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, located in Southern California. A small mountain town known as, “Crestline.” There, my mom and dad raised my three brothers, my sister and I. While Growing up I went on many camping trips to forestry areas, and my mom would take us hiking. I started to explore the land where I lived, hiking deep into the forest, discovering awesome mother nature around me. I attended high school at Rim High School, where I was involved in after school sports and art classes. During high school I worked part-time at the Boys and Girls Club, volunteered at a local elementary school in the mornings before class, and, taught children from the ages 4 to 12 how to snowboard at Snow Valley Ski Resort. While working at the ski resort, I became very passionate for snowboarding; it was my favorite thing to do and made me happy. After High School, I moved to Big Bear Lake, California. The reason I moved to Big Bear, was so I could snowboard everyday, living very close to the slopes. Also, while up in Big Bear, I would commute down the mountain to Crafton Hills Community College, also took online courses through San Bernardino Valley College (Crafton and Valley are sister college’s). The great thing was, I still had to time to snowboard during the day then get school done in the late afternoon / night. I received my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts, and plan to continue my education to get a BA in elementary education. At one point in my life, I lived in Truckee, California, which is basically, North Lake Tahoe, for a short time. There, I met many great people and experienced positive influences in my life. Starting summer of 2006-08 and 2011, I worked my summers at High Cascade Snowboard Camp. I was a camp counselor there, where I was in charge of a group of kids for 8 days a week, twenty-four hours a day. In the spring of ’09 and ’10, I worked at an Outdoor Science and Education Camp, where students from the Los Angeles area would come up for the week, and I would lead them on trail groups and teach them knowledge of the surrounding forest in the area. I have been currently living in Oregon for six months, and enjoying it greatly.
I am currently new to joining the staff at Trillium Charter School as the after-school program assistant. The first time I walked down the hallway at Trillium, I knew this was the place I wanted to work. Trillium holds such a unique atmosphere, and when I saw all the art hung on the walls of the hallway, it made me wish I could have attended such a school while I was growing up. I believe making a positive impression is one of the most important things to take place in children’s lives. They are a person on their own, yet having positive influences and role models growing up, is always good.
In addition some of my interests are music, singing, art & crafts (I feel like I am always trying to so some random project, from making homemade paper, to helping my friends with their side projects), snowboarding, cooking, riding my bike, to just learning about the new city I am currently living in.
